# How to Remove a Tire from a Rim
It is not wise to go to the professionals all the time to remove the tire of your truck. A little effort can make the job easy for you. At first, we need a few tools to complete the work.
Tools we need –
- Lubricants/ Oil
- Wrench and jack
- Customized screwdrivers (Tire removing)
- Pry Bar
- Tire bead breaker
- Core removal tool
Step 1) Choose an Appropriate Place
First of all, you need to pick a good place to remove the tire from the rim. A less noisy area will be the perfect location to do the job. In a place like this, you can work on your own and nobody will feel disturbed.
Step 2) Prepare the Tire
You have to take out the tire from your truck whether it is on the backside of the truck or anywhere else. Use a wrench to remove the tire bolts. A tire jack can also do the same. To remove the bolts, you need to work with the wrench in an X pattern.
Step 3) Deflating the Tire
This is another important step to take a tire off a rim.
Almost everyone knows that it is impossible to remove a tire from a rim without deflating it. First of all, locate the air valve which is a small metal or rubber spoke stays outside of the tire.
To remove the valve, you have to twist the cap counterclockwise. Inside the valve, there will be a metal cylinder which is the core thing. Now the valve core removing tool has some work to perform. Put in the below part of the tool inside the valve. By twisting it counterclockwise, the core will be removed.
Step 4) Separating the Tire Bead
On every tire, there is a bead that is attached to the tire quite strongly. If you drive a heavy vehicle onto the rubber portion of the tire for a while, the bead will be removed automatically. There is no need to use any tool to separate the tire bead.
You can do the same job with a jack. Use a jack to raise the truck. Then push in the tire below the jack. Now lower the truck down on the tire. Remember, you have to lower down the truck on the rubber part.
If these two processes did not go right for you, then there is another way. Take a saw or a knife. Then cut through the bead using any of these tools. The tire of your truck will be damaged if you cut into the metal rim.
Step 5) Put Pressure on the Rubber Side Area with Your Feet
After completing all the above steps, the tire should be quite loose from the rim. Now place the tire on the ground, put some pressure on the rubber part of the tire using your feet. Put the front part of the tire down while applying pressure.
You have to make sure that the tire must not be displaced. Placing a carpet below the tire can prevent it from displacing.
Step 6) Apply Lubricants
The tires hold the full pressure of your truck body. As a result, the tire gets strongly stuck with the rim. At this stage of your working process, lubricant can help a lot. To make them loose, you have poured some lube on the tire-rim joint.
What if there is no lubricant? A homemade dishwasher can also do the trick. If you use dishwasher liquid, then use a bit more. But if you want to use the best option as lube then go for lubricants as it has a specialty for automobile relevant things.
Step 7) Removing Tire from Rim Using Pry Bar
Take the pry bar and place it at any corner of the rim. Drift the pry bar underneath the rubber, and then lift it until bead comes above. With the help of a screwdriver, work around the wheel while holding the tire in place with the pry bar.
By now the bottom half of the rim will be free. Still, there is some work with the top half. Chunk the screwdriver underneath the rim and pull the rim up. Use the pry bar in next to leverage the rim upwards. Keep it continue until the rim comes out.
Step 8) Set A New Tire on A Rim
So, removing the tire from the rim is done. Now, we will put a new tire. First of all, add some grease in the inner portion of the tire. Then fit the tire on the rim in perfect position. Keep pushing downside until the tire sets itself perfectly with the rim.
Here is the best spray paint for rims to turn the old wheel into new.
Tips
1. You’ll find the valve core removal tool at any auto parts store. This tool is quite cheap.
2. If you are using a saw to separate the bead from the rim, then be cautious as the saw may damage the tire or the rim while cutting.
3. Use wider pry bars and screwdrivers as the wider ones work the best.
# How to Remove a Tire from a Rim (Using Machine)
Take a tire off a rim by hands is the affordable way but it is always risky and newbie can face the hazardous situation. A manual tire changing machine is a safe way for them.
Tools we need –
- A plywood board
- Manual Tire changing machine
- Screwdriver and bolts
- Air valve removal tool
Step 1) Machine Setup
The machine needs a strong surface to stand on. Take a plywood board and make the trace of the machine over it. Place the machine on the traced area perfectly. Now you need a screwdriver and numbers of bolts to screw-up the machine with the plywood tightly.
Step 2) Take the Air Off
You’ll need to find the air valve. Its color will be black or metallic. Remove the air valve using an air valve removal tool. You have to make sure that there is no air inside the tire.
Step 3) Set the Tire on the Tire Changing Machine
At first, place the tire on the tire changing machine. There will be a small, triangular-shaped nub on the base. Lay the wheel flat, and hook the bottom of the rim on the nub. Put the tire changer arm down on top of the rubber area. At last, use the clump to confirm that the tire has been perfectly placed.
Step 4) Use the Changing Rod
When you’ll buy a changing machine, there will be a changing rod with it. This rod will help you to remove the tire from the rim. Place one end of the rod at the rim-tire joint then push down the rod gradually holding the other end of it. By doing this, the rim will be exposed from the tire.
Once you are done with one side, you have to turn over the wheel and repeat the process for another side also. If the full process seems complicated to you then there is a manual book with the changing machine. Read the manual thoroughly and follow the process shown there.
Step 5) Remove the Tire from the Rim
If you have completed the above steps, then the vehicle tire should be completely separated from the rim. Now just use both of your hands to get rid of the tire from the rim. You can always use some grease at the tire-rim joint to make the removing process smooth.
